Invisalign, Explained Simply
How aligners work, why they beat braces for most people, and how kids can be treated early with Invisalign First — including built-in jaw expansion and bite correction.
Invisalign uses a series of custom-made, clear plastic trays (aligners) that gently move your teeth in small steps. Every 1–2 weeks you switch to the next tray in the series, each one slightly straighter than the last, until your teeth reach their final position.

For Growing Children
Invisalign First
Designed for kids around 6–10 years old, while both baby and adult teeth are still present. It doesn't just align teeth — it can guide jaw development while the child is still growing, using two built-in features that traditionally needed separate, fixed appliances.
Palatal expansion feature
For a narrow upper jaw, the aligners gently widen the palate over time — the same goal as a fixed palatal expander, but removable and far more comfortable.
Mandibular advancement feature (MAF)
For a lower jaw that's set back (a receding chin bite), the aligners include built-in wings that gently posture the lower jaw forward during wear — correcting the bite while straightening teeth at the same time.
Invisalign First vs. Twin Block vs. RME
Twin Block and RME (rapid maxillary expansion) are the conventional fixed appliances for jaw correction in kids. Here's how Invisalign First's built-in features compare.
